  • About the wood

    As a flute wood, Ancient Kauri has a voice that is rich and sweet, giving it great acoustical properties for the lower as we ll as the higher pitched notes. It’s a fantastic Native American Flute wood, ancient and beautiful. Typically Ancient Kauri is darker brown in colour with a depth of grain that holds shimmering highlights within. This wood has been recovered from swamps in the far north of New Zealand/Aotearoa, where it’s been naturally preserved for up to 45,000 years!

    About the stone

    Moonstone

    Its loving energy promotes the Divine in all situations, and is an emotional support for intuitive or sensitive children. Rainbow Moonstone acts as a prism, diffusing energy throughout the aura. It provides psychic protection, clearing the mind and senses, and aids in lucid dreaming and calm sleep.

    Pounamu

    Pounamu is New Zealand’s greenstone, or jade. There are a few common varieties;
    Kahurangi pounamu is highly translucent and has a vivid shade of green. It is named after the clearness of the sky and is the rarest variety of pounamu. Kawakawa pounamu comes in many shades, often with flecks or inclusions, and is named after the leaves of the native kawakawa tree (Macropiper excelsum).

    Tiger Eye

    Tigers Eye stone has been used to complement the beautifully figured and wavy grain of the Ancient Kauri wood. This stone was traditionally carried as an amulet to provide self-confidence, courage and strength.

    Turquoise

    Turquoise is a sacred stone used for centuries by the Native American’s in all healing work. This is a stone of peace, serenity and tranquillity. Southern Cross Flutes uses only natural undyed turquoise.

  • The highest pitch Grandfather Flute is the D minor, which is also deeper than flutes in the Love Flutes range.

    The deepest of our Grandfather Flutes is the F# Contrabass Flute.
