Western Red Cedar is one of our most favourite timbers for flutes. It is highly resonant, lightweight, with a beautiful grain figure and lovely aroma. We have combined the Cedar with Black Walnut mouthpiece, nest and totem insert.
Note that this flute has right hand off-set finger holes, ie. for those who play with their right hand on the bottom finger holes.
We craft these amazing instruments with a range of gemstones, just let us know in the notes section of the order form if you would like one or two added to your flute at no additional cost, choose from Turquoise, sunstone, rose quartz, moonstone, garnet, citrine, tigers eye, amethyst or Lapis Lazuli

About the wood
Western Red Cedar is the quintessential Native American love flute wood. Very light to hold, this flute-wood produces a classic warm, rich and resonant tone. Being a softwood, it is very absorbent which helps in reducing moisture buildup within the flute while playing. It is typically a light brown colour with a sweet woody aroma under the nose. Traditionally known as the “long life maker” or “tree of life”, Western Red Cedar is native to the American Pacific North West, and to this day has extensive applications among First Nation peoples.

The highest pitch Grandfather Flute is the D minor, which is also deeper than flutes in the Love Flutes range.
