Drum Making

Native American styled hand drums provide a beautifully rich, soulful and deep sound. These drums are made with a durable and stable wood for the frame, South Island goat skin, and a drum beater fashioned with a leather head stuffed with possum fur.

There are a number of steps to crafting a drum, all of which will be facilitated in an informative and well-paced manner. You will start with a drum frame, a large piece of goat skin, and by the end of the day have a great looking drum just waiting to dry out (5 days) and be played.

Timing: We can complete this in a full 6 hour day. Weekdays or weekends are fine.
Costs: $300. Inclusive is lunch and drinks, plus all materials, instructional book/dvd, plus a flute carry bag. Discounts for two or more people.
Requirements: No experience is necessary! We will be working with goatskin, so bring a brave face and a keenness to learn, plus wear some old clothes that don’t mind getting messy.
